Joe Rohde, portfolio creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, explores how theme park designers find inspiration in the visual vocabulary of great historical artists—like Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Claude Lorraine, and Casper David Friedrich—to connect with contemporary audiences. His presentation is followed by a conversation about art and experience with Richard Rand, associate director for collections at the Getty Museum.
Rohde is a veteran of more than 30 years at Disney Imagineering, the creative arm of the Walt Disney Company that designs and builds everything from cruise ships to theme parks, rides, and attractions. He began his career as a model designer at Epcot, continuing with projects in Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris Resort. Joe led the team that conceptualized, designed, and built Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, and oversaw new attractions for that park, including Pandora -The World of Avatar.
