In Dialogue is an ongoing series of installations that places contemporary photographs in conversation with historical works in the Museum’s collection. This third rotation explores how artists repurpose pictures made by others to create fresh compositions. Highlighting a nineteenth-century collage by British merchant John Bingley Garland, the display presents his intimate meditation on loss alongside a broad range of photo-based works made after 1950, inviting us to reflect on how existing imagery can spark artistic innovation.

Visit the West Pavilion to see work by Alejandro Cartagena, John Bingley Garland, Justine Kurland, Wangechi Mutu, Toshiko Okanoue, Joe Rudko, Ilene Segalove, and Lorna Simpson.
