The art and literature of ancient Greece and Rome inspired the dynamic master painter Peter Paul Rubens in a myriad of ways. Hear about his activities as a collector of ancient works of art, his role in a lively network of humanist scholars, and how the artist’s knowledge of the classical past shaped his creative process from curators Anne Woollett, Davide Gasparotto, and Jeffrey Spier. They also present a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the of making the exhibition, Rubens: Picturing Antiquity, on view November 10 through January 24, 2022, at the Getty Villa Museum.
