Due to unforeseen circumstances, the talk by Professor Allison Morehead is canceled. We hope to re-schedule this talk for a later date in 2019. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Allison Morehead, professor of art history at Queen's University in Canada, addresses the ambiguity in Edvard Munch's symbolist paintings, including Starry Night (1893) in the Getty Museum's collection. By viewing elements of Starry Night in reference to Munch's other paintings, Morehead traces the ways in which the artist's work creates loose networks of associative imagery that are best read as interchangeable links in chains of meaning.
