Health Insurance

Medical treatment in the United States can be extremely expensive - possibly thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. Consider obtaining private health insurance coverage of at least one million U.S. dollars. For short visits, obtain 30-day visitor health insurance coverage from your travel agent.

Private health insurance should also be considered by visitors eligible to receive Getty benefits, but who arrive in the U.S. before they begin to receive benefits from the Getty.

Traveling With Prescription Medicine

Please bring a sufficient supply of any medicines you require and check that they are legal in the U.S. Carry a copy of your prescription and ensure that both the generic and trade names of the drug are included in case your medication is lost or stolen and a replacement is needed. If you require syringes for a medical condition such as diabetes, remember to carry a supply to last your entire trip as well as a medical certificate that states that they are for medical use. Syringes are usually prohibited in carry-on luggage due to security concerns. Contact your airline before departure to verify their carry-on regulations.
