COVID-19 Update

As L.A. County COVID-19 cases decline, so do positive test results at Getty sites—no positive test results for the last two weeks! See the latest update from Steve Olsen.

Important Flexible Spending Account Changes

Recent legislation signed into law includes certain COVID relief options for employers who offer Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). The Getty will adopt some of these temporary FSA options. If you were enrolled in any of the FSAs in 2020 and/or if you are currently enrolled in a FSA this year, please see the attached document with details concerning the changes. Please contact Human Resources with any questions.

New Zoom Training

Getty Digital and Events partnered to create a new series of training classes and videos to help Getty staff get the most out of Zoom.

In addition to these new offerings, we will also share a series of training videos targeted towards creating and managing events using Zoom. These videos will be available in the next few weeks. Have questions or want to request training for your department? Email Getty Digital Training.

Library Curbside Service

The next Getty Library Curbside Service is March 16–18. All requests for library items made from December 3 through March 10 will be available for the March curbside service. Please see the attached Curbside Service instructions for March 2021 and FAQs about requesting library materials. Curbside service dates and related information are also listed on the Getty Library at Home research guide’s Circulation Curbside Service page.

You will be able to make a reservation for a curbside service date and time beginning on March 8. Please look for information regarding Reservio and scheduling an appointment in the Getty THIS WEEK email on March 8.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, ACCESSIBILITY, AND INCLUSION (DEAI)

DEAI Summit

The DEAI Council, members of the DEAI task forces, and senior leadership gathered at a digital DEAI Summit last week, hosted and facilitated by JONES. This biannual event is a way for staff who engage in DEAI work to provide updates and share information, lessons learned, and best practices.

Eight of the 14 DEAI task forces shared their experiences regarding the following topics: Partnering for Success (presented by the Investments team from the Multi-department Task Force); Getting Input from Staff (Getty Digital and GCI task forces); Building an Action Plan (Publications Task Force); Building Trust with Senior Leaders (Museum and Development task forces); Building an Inclusive and Efficient Team (Security/Visitor Services Task Force); and Building an Inclusive Bilingual Group (Facilities Task Force). The DEAI Council presented its Top 5 DEAI Priorities and the process of developing these priorities and creating action items to support them.

Honoring Black History Month

Check out the latest from the Iris’s Black History Month Series: senior paintings curator Davide Gasparotto dives into Miracle of the Relic of the Cross at the Rialto Bridge by Vittore Carpaccio and its depiction of the Black gondoliers of Renaissance Venice; artist Lava Thomas honors the Black women activists behind the Montgomery Bus Boycott; and scholar Bridget R. Cooks discusses her new exhibition, The Black Index, in which six artists reclaim the act of self-representation. Finally, Alex Jones, curatorial research assistant at the GRI, reflects on photographer Charles Brittin.

Save the Date: All-Staff Update March 30, 2021

Getty staff, docents, and volunteers are invited to join an all-staff update on Tuesday, March 30, at 10:30 a.m. Pacific time via Zoom webinar. The agenda and Zoom information will be provided at a later date.

Reminder—HR Lunch and Learn

This week HR holds the next Lunch and Learn session, providing information and responding to questions that have been raised by staff. All staff are welcome; registration is not necessary.

March 4: Career Development, 12-1 p.m.

Phoenicians Among Others: Immigration, Integration, and Identity

Led by Getty Villa Scholar Denise Demetriou, this talk will examine the experiences of Phoenician immigrants from the Eastern Mediterranean in Athens, Carthage, Egypt, and Sardinia. More specifically, it will focus on the adaptive practices of Phoenician-speaking immigrants that helped mediate their interactions with their host state and created a sense of belonging, new identities constructed because of immigration, and the long-term effects of migration and mobility in the ancient Mediterranean.
