Note: Overshoes consisting of a sole, usually set on bands of iron, often ring-shaped, and fastened over footwear by tie straps, worn to elevate the foot for protection from mud, dirt, or wetness. For footwear with a thick sole usually of wood, but sometimes of leather or cork, use "clogs."

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Overschoenen die bestaan uit een zool, meestal geplaatst op een verhoging, doorgaans blokken, stelten of ringvormige ijzeren banden, die over het schoeisel heen wordt vastgemaakt met aantrekkoordjes. Ze worden gedragen om de voet te verhogen ter bescherming tegen modder, vuil of nattigheid. Gebruik 'klompschoenen' voor schoeisel met een dikke zool die meestal van hout is, soms van leer of kurk. 
German ..... Überschuh, der aus einer Sohle besteht, die in der Regel auf einem Streifen aus Eisen gesetzt ist, oft ringförmig, und durch Spanngurte über einer Fußbekleidung befestigt wird. Er wird getragen, um den Fuß zum Schutz vor Schlamm, Schmutz oder Nässe anzuheben. Für einen Schuh mit einer dicken Sohle, in der Regel aus Holz, manchmal aber auch aus Leder oder Kork, ist "Clog" zu verwenden.
