Note: Footwear made partly or wholly of wood, with a thick sole usually of wood, but sometimes of leather or cork; originally to protect the foot, hosiery, or other footwear. Dutch ..... Schoeisel dat gedeeltelijk of geheel van hout is gemaakt met een dikke zool die meestal van hout is maar soms ook van leer of kurk, ter bescherming van de voet, van kousen of sokken of van ander schoeisel. Gebruik `steltschoenen' vooroverschoenen die bestaan uit een zool die is geplaatst op ijzeren banden. 
German ..... Fußbekleidung, die zu Teilen oder im Ganzen aus Holz hergestellt wurde, mit einer dicken Sohle gewöhnlich aus Holz, aber manchmal auch aus Leder oder Kork, um die Füße, Strumpfwaren oder andere Fußbekleidung zu schützen. Für Überschuhe, die aus einer Sohlengarnitur aus Eisenbändern bestehen, verwende "Patte".
