HR Lunch and Learn Schedule

Today is the next in the series of the HR Lunch and Learn sessions, providing information and responding to questions that have been raised by staff. Registration is not necessary. Use the Zoom links on the session you wish to join; Zoom links are different for each session. To accommodate staff who wanted to attend but were unable to do so, we’ve scheduled another session on Getty’s Pay Programs on March 25. All sessions are 12-1 p.m.

Day of Service Reimagined

The Day of Service project team is exploring new ways of giving back this year and would like to include your ideas, too. Send us your suggestions for innovative and meaningful volunteer opportunities that will allow Getty staff to give back while still sheltering at home, social distancing, and for some of us, managing the challenges of remote learning with our kids. Email your recommendations to communityservice@getty.edu by February 22. Stay tuned for more details regarding this year’s event.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, ACCESSIBILITY, AND INCLUSION (DEAI)

This is the first of regular updates on Getty DEAI activity undertaken by three different groups: Senior Leadership, the DEAI Council, and the Program and Department Task Forces. Please visit Getty Go for more information on the Council, Task Forces, and the Trustee-approved Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion Plan.

Update from the DEAI Council

The Council would like to thank staff who provided ideas for actions you would like the Council to consider as it moves forward with the Top 5 DEAI Priorities (English and Spanish) in 2021. The Council is hard at work shaping these actions, which were the topic of the most recent monthly Council meeting. Upon conclusion of its March meeting, the Council aims to forward its recommended actions to Senior Leadership. We look forward to reporting out the outcomes of that discussion to the Getty-wide community.

NEWS

New Fund for L.A. Arts Recovery

Getty is collaborating with Los Angeles-based and national philanthropic organizations to offer pandemic recovery funding to nonprofits across the entire arts sector in L.A. County. The L.A. Arts Recovery Fund pools contributions from more than a dozen funders to provide multi-year operating support for small and medium-sized arts organizations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic—those with smaller budgets that play vital roles in their communities. The fund will also support organizations with access to technical assistance and capacity-building. Learn more about the L.A. Arts Recovery Fund on the Iris.

Käthe Kollwitz Catalogue Wins Award

The catalogue for the Getty Research Institute exhibition Käthe Kollwitz: Prints, Process, Politics won a 2021 Alfred H. Barr Jr. Award. The College Art Association of America (CAA) presents this award to the authors of an especially distinguished catalogue in the history of art, published in the English language under the auspices of a museum, library, or collection. Congratulations to all who contributed to this project!

PubWest 2020 Book Design Awards

PubWest, a national trade organization of publishers, awarded Getty several book design awards this year. Honored were Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art: The Arthur Drexler Years, 1951–1986, by Thomas S. Hines, which won a Gold Medal; Käthe Kollwitz: Prints, Process, edited by Louis Marchesano, which won a Silver Medal; Pierre Koenig: A View from the Archive, by Neil Jackson, which won a Silver Medal; and The Central Collecting Point in Munich: A New Beginning for the Restitution and Protection of Art, by Iris Lauterbach, which took home a Bronze. A round of applause to everyone who worked on these books!

Honoring Black History Month

On the Iris, discover the stories of two influential artists: John Simmons, a photographer and Emmy-winning cinematographer who has been behind the lens since the mid-1960s; and David Driskell, an artist, art historian, collector, and curator who redefined the story of American art over course of seven decades. Visit the Iris throughout the month for more stories that celebrate Black History Month.
