Battles of Cepeda (South American history, 1820/1859)

Note: The two battles of Cepeda were fought in reaction to the dissention within Argentina as a result of the declaration of Argentine independence in 1816. The opposing forces were the federalists, who supported federalism in Argentina, and the unitarians, who supported a strong central government. The federalists defeated the unitarians at both battles, enforcing a federal constitution in 1853. The federalist government was overturned in 1861 at the Battle of Pavón.
