Elaine of Astolat (character, Arthurian legend)

Note: Figure in Arthurian legend, daughter of Bernard of Astolat, who dies of her unrequited love for Sir Lancelot. The character is found in Thomas Malory’s "Le Morte d’Arthur," in Alfred Tennyson’s "Idylls of the King," and as inspiration for Tennyson’s poem "The Lady of Shalott."
