Costs

A fee (premium) will be deducted from your paychecks for contribution toward the cost of this coverage. Remember that you will receive a paycheck every other week.

Deductions will start on the first day of your residency reported in your invitation letters and will end on the last day of the month of your residency. For example, if your residency ends on December 11th, the premium will be deducted until December 31st.

Fees for office visits, services, and medications will not be deducted from your paychecks but, you will pay if and when you receive the services or the medications.

The amount the Getty pays to supplement the cost of your coverage is considered taxable income to you.

Children Immunizations

If you need to enroll a child in school please contact the school you selected to learn about their immunization requirements. For more information on California Immunizations, visit California Immunization Requirements.

U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents

If you are a U.S. citizen or a permanent U.S. resident you may choose to retain your current insurance and waive Getty health plan coverage. Please let us know your choice by sending OSIP the completed Insurance Verification Form for U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

J-1 Visa Holders

In accordance with the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, Vol. 22, section 62.14, individuals coming to the USA on a J-1 visa must maintain adequate health insurance for themselves, and any dependents on a J-2 visa, throughout their stay in the USA. Failure to maintain insurance will lead to loss of legal status and termination from the program! The health care plans offered at Getty cover the U.S. Department of State requirements.

Getty requires that all international guests participating in our programs with a J-1 visa (and J-2 dependent visa) purchase the Medical HMO UnitedHealthcare Signature Value Advantage plan offered at Getty. Internationals on a J-1 (J-2) visa who already have a health insurance plan valid in the U.S., could keep their insurance, however, they must purchase the Getty insurance too. No exemptions.

This measure is taken to protect J-1 and J-2 visa holders as in the past several individuals had serious problems when trying to use their own insurance in hospitals during medical emergency situations.

For information about the U.S. Department of State Requirements, read U.S. Health Requirements.

We recommend that you check with your travel agent to obtain a travel/flight health insurance especially if you decide to arrive in the U.S. before the beginning of your Getty residency.

Please contact OSIP at osip@getty.edu if you have any questions.
