	Life of Saint Sebastian (Christian iconography)

Note: Narratives surrounding the life and miracles of St. Sebastian, martyred during the Roman emperor Diocletian's persecution of Christians. According to legend, Sebastian was a Roman soldier who hid his Christian beliefs in order to assist Christians targeted by Rome; his faith was discovered, and he was sentenced to execution by shooting with arrows. St. Irene discovered that he was not dead, and nursed him back to health. Later he was executed by other means. After death, he interceded on behalf of plague victims.
