Note: Holes in the ground used to hold the foot of post components of fences or other structures. In the context of archaeology, these are recognizable as circular patches of darkened earth, where wood has decayed, or the hole has later been filled with a different material. Postholes are important to archaeologists to plot the layout of former building structures. |

Dutch ..... Kuil in de grond waarin een paal kon worden geplaatst. Herkenbaar als een ronde vlek waar de aarde verkleurd is, omdat het hout is vergaan of de kuil later is opgevuld met een ander materiaal. Paalgaten zijn belangrijk voor archeologen om het grondplan van vroegere bouwwerken te kunnen reconstrueren. |
