Note: The youngest era of the Phanerozoic. It follows the Mesozoic, extending from about 65 million years ago to the present. During the Cenozoic, flora and fauna evolved toward their present state and the continents assumed their modern configuration. The Cenozoic comprises two periods: the Tertiary (with its five epochs) and the Quaternary. |

Dutch ..... De jongste era van het fanerozoïcum. Het komt na het mesozoïcum, en duurt van ongeveer 65 miljoen jaar geleden tot het heden. In deze tijd evolueerden de flora en fauna zich naar hun huidige staat en namen de continenten hun hedendaagse vorm aan. Het cenozoïcum wordt onderverdeeld in twee periodes: het tertiair (met vijf tijdvakken) en het quartair. |
