Note: Species of small deciduous tree or large shrub growing to 7 m in height, native to the Mediterranean region. Believed to have been mentioned in Mycenaean texts; known in Biblical texts and in Ancient Greece. Sap is used as a medicine, and to create an oil of turpentine; the fruit is used to make bread. The bark and galls are used for tanning leather and making a beverage. |

Dutch ..... Kleine bladverliezende boomsoort of grote heester die tot 7 m hoog kan worden en inheems is in het Middellandse Zeegebied. Hij zou al in Myceense teksten zijn vermeld en komt voor in Bijbelse teksten en was bekend in het oude Griekenland. Het sap wordt gebruikt als geneesmiddel en voor de vervaardiging van een terpentijnolie. De vrucht wordt gebruikt bij het broodbakken. De schors en de gallen worden gebruikt bij het looien van leer en voor het bereiden van een drank. |
