Note: Species of tree native to Europe but introduced to North America. It has has deltoid leaves with woolly grayish undersides, accounting for its popular name. It is a close relative of the white poplar, P. alba. In many classifications, it is considered a hybrid of P. alba and the European aspen, P. tremula, having characteristics intermediate between the two. |

Dutch ..... Boom die inheems is in Europa, maar ook in Noord-Amerika is geïntroduceerd. De driehoekige bladeren hebben een wollige en grijzige onderkant, vandaar de volksnaam. De boom is nauw verwant aan de witte abeel, P. alba. In veel classificaties wordt deze soort beschouwd als een kruising van P. alba en de ratelpopulier, P. tremula, omdat hij kenmerken heeft tussen die van deze twee soorten in. |
