Note: Species of oak tree native to the southern Mediterranean, Morocco, and Asia Minor. The tannin extracted from the large acorn cups was used in the 18th century for tanning leather and for dyeing. The acorns, themselves called "valonia," are edible. |

Dutch ..... Eikensoort die inheems is in het zuidelijke Middellandse Zeegebied, Marokko en Klein-Azië. In de achttiende eeuw gebruikte men de tannine in de grote doppen van de eikels voor het looien van leer en voor kleurstoffen. De eetbare eikels zelf noemt men in het Engels ���valonia'. |
