Note: Species of medium-sized oak tree native to lowland wetlands in the southeastern United States, from Delaware and southern Illinois south to northern Florida and southeast Texas. The common name refers to the acorn almost completely enclosed by the cup or its scale. The Latin name comes from the shape of the leaves, which resemble a lyre. |

De eikel wordt bijna helemaal bedekt door de dop. De Latijnse naam verwijst naar de vorm van de bladeren, die op een lier lijken. |
