Note: Species of medium-sized, fast-growing oak tree distributed on rocky hillsides and sandy ridges throughout the eastern and Midwestern United States, having a black or dark brown bark. While the tree is occasionally used for lumber, its most important commercial product is a yellow dye obtained from the bark. |

Dutch ..... Middelgrote, snel groeiende eik die voorkomt op rotsachtige hellingen van heuvels en zanderige heuvelruggen in het oosten en middenwesten van de Verenigde Staten. De boom heeft een zwarte of donkerbruine schors. Incidenteel wordt de boom gebruikt voor timmerhout, maar het belangrijkste product is een gele kleurstof die men uit de schors wint. |
