Note: Style of domestic construction using four horizontal wooden beams (schwellen) that support vertical squared posts. This style produced a very stable frame that allowed the stacking of floors; it was the precursor to fachwerbau and other timber-frame construction. It has been found in Germany in structures dating to as early as the late 12th century. |

Dutch ..... Stijl van woningbouw waarbij vier horizontale houten balken (Schwellen) verticale vierkante palen ondersteunen. Deze stijl resulteerde in een zeer stabiel frame, waardoor meerdere verdiepingen op elkaar konden worden gezet. Het was de voorloper van vakwerkbouw en andere constructies met houten skelet. De stijl is aangetroffen in Duitse gebouwen die zijn gebouwd vanaf de late 12e eeuw. |
