Note: Refers to the period of the expansionary reign of King Indravarman I (877-890 CE) during the foundational Angkor period. The style of this period is characterized by grandiosity in building campaigns, city planning featuring elaborate irrigation systems, and monuments and tombs honoring the legacies of patrons. Architectural production features the first Cambodian temples to be built primarily of stone rather than brick with stucco adornments. The period also witnessed the development of the temple-mountain prototype, an ancestor of future larger, royal temples in Angkor. Sculptural developments of the period include sculpture in the round of multi-armed Hindu deities maintained by horseshoe-shaped supports, featuring subtle stylized realism evidenced by the carved anatomical details such as tear-ducts, elaborate chignons, planes of the torso, and garment drapery.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 指於吳哥創建時期由因陀羅跋摩一世所統治的時代（西元877年至890年）。本時期的風格特色有：宏偉堂皇的建築活動、以完善灌溉系統著稱的城市計畫、紀念贊助人遺澤的紀念碑與墳墓。在建築方面，此時期興建了柬埔寨第一座主要以石材建造的廟宇，有別於以往飾以灰泥的磚造廟宇。這時期也經歷典型山形寺廟的發展，此種寺廟為吳哥地區之後大型堂皇廟宇的前身。本時期的雕刻發展包括了以千手印度神祇為主題的雕像，雕像以馬蹄形支撐物支撐著，刻畫細緻，具有寫實主義風格，可見於淚管、精緻的假髻、軀幹的結構面與衣褶等身體結構學上的細節。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de periode van de expansieve heerschappij van koning Indravarman I (877-890 n. Chr.) tijdens de periode waarin het Angkor-rijk werd gesticht. De stijl van deze periode wordt gekenmerkt door grootse bouwcampagnes, stadsplanning waarbij gebruik wordt gemaakt van uitgebreide irrigatiesystemen, en monumenten en graftombes ter ere van de nalatenschap van begunstigers. Architectuur in deze periode wordt gekenmerkt door de eerste Cambodjaanse tempels die voornamelijk in steen werden gebouwd in plaats van in baksteen met stucwerkversieringen. Tijdens deze periode werd ook het tempel-bergprototype ontwikkeld, een voorloper van toekomstige grotere, koninklijke tempels in Angkor. Beeldhouwkundige ontwikkelingen in deze periode betreffen vrijstaande beeldhouwwerken van meerarmige hindoegoden die worden ondersteund door hoefijzervormige voetstukken, gekenmerkt door een subtiel, gestileerd realisme dat zichtbaar is in de beeldgesneden anatomische details zoals traanbuizen, gedetailleerde haarwrongen, gedeelten van de torso en gedrapeerde kleding. |
