Note: One of the two main schools of the Rajput style of Indian miniature painting, the other being Pahari, with which it is closely allied in terms of technique and subject matter. This one is geographically based in the Central Plains region. The evolution of Rajasthani painting out of early Western Indian painting is not completely understood. It seems to have begun in the 16th century, and in its first phase retained a hieratic and abstract quality. The subject matter is essentially Hindu, with particular attention to the life of Krishna. The literature and painting of the time were products of the contemporary religious development that emphasized devotion to Krishna as the way to salvation. Popular themes were pictorial representations of the musical modes (ragamala) and of love poetry. The style was not much influenced by Mughal painting styles until the eighteenth century when the sharp distinction between the two styles became more obscured. The style developed various distinct schools, some of which are outside of the geographical borders of Rajasthan.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 為印度拉傑普特細密畫的兩大畫派之一，另一則是帕哈里畫派，兩者在技巧與主題方面相當類似。拉賈斯坦畫派流行於中央平原區。關於拉賈斯坦繪畫發展自早期西方印度繪畫的這段歷史，至今所知有限，這段歷史可能在西元十六世紀便已展開，並在一開始仍然保有神聖與抽象的特質。主題基本上多為印度教主題，特別著重描繪牧牛神奎師那的生活。當時的文學與繪畫皆是當代宗教發展下的產物，當代的宗教觀認為全心奉獻奎師那可以獲得救贖。當時流行的繪畫主題是音樂調式（拉迦瑪拉）與愛情詩歌。到了十八世紀，拉賈斯坦風格受到蒙兀兒繪畫相當大的影響，此時原本迥異的兩種風格之間的差異性也隨之模糊。拉賈斯坦風格發展出各種風格獨特的派別，這些派別中的某一些甚至是在拉賈斯坦之外發展。

| Dutch ..... Een van de twee belangrijkste scholen van de Indiase miniatuurschilderkunst in de Rajputstijl; de andere is Pahari, een stijl die sterk verwant is qua techniek en themakeuze. Deze stijl wordt geassocieerd met het gebied van de Centrale Hoogvlakten. Het is nog niet geheel duidelijk hoe de Rajasthan-schilderkunst zich uit de vroege West-Indiase schilderkunst heeft ontwikkeld. Het lijkt erop dat het begin ligt in de 16de eeuw, en dat de eerste fase nog een overwegend hiëratisch en abstract karakter had. De thema's zijn meestal hindoeïstisch, met een sterk accent op het leven van Krishna. De literatuur en schilderkunst uit deze periode waren het product van de religieuze ontwikkelingen van die tijd, waarbij devotie aan Krishna de weg naar de verlossing zou wijzen. Populaire thema's waren verbeeldingen van de muzikale modi (ragamali) and liefdesgedichten. Tot de 18de eeuw werd de stijl nog nauwelijks beïnvloed door Mogolstijlen. Pas daarna viel het duidelijke onderscheid tussen de twee stijlen geleidelijk weg. Uit de stijl hebben zich diverse scholen ontwikkeld, waarvan sommige buiten de geografische grenzen van Rajasthan. |
| Spanish ..... Una de las dos escuelas principales del estilo Rajput de pintura en miniatura indio, siendo el otro Parí, con el que está estrechamente asociado en términos de técnica y contenido. Esta última está geográficamente basada en la región de las Llanuras Centrales. La evolución de la pintura Rajasthani fuera de la antigua pintura de India Occidental no se entiende completamente. Parece haber empezado en el siglo XVI y en su primera fase mantuvo una calidad hierática y abstracta. El contenido es esencialmente hindú, con particular atención a la vida de Krishna. La literatura y pintura de ese tiempo fueron producto del desarrollo religioso contemporáneo que enfatiza la devoción a Krishna como medio de salvación. Los temas populares eran representaciones pictóricas de los modos musicales (ragamala) y de poesía romántica. El estilo no fue muy influenciado por los estilos de pintura Mughal hasta el siglo XVIII cuando la aguda diferencia entre los dos estilos se volvió más difusa. El estilo desarrolló varias escuelas distintas algunas de las cuales están fuera de las fronteras geográficas de Rajasthan. |
