Note: In the lumber trade, a general term for wood of many species of oak, including Q. rubra, belonging to a subgroup of oak trees native to North and South America, characterized by having bristle-tipped leaves, acorns with hairy shell linings, and bitter seeds that mature in two seasons. Red oak wood is typically hard, coarse-grained and used commercially for flooring, furniture, cabinets, paneling, and millwork. |

Dutch ..... Hout van de boom behorende tot het genus Quercus borealis, inheems in Oost-Canada en de Verenigde Staten. De kleuren variëren van roze tot vaal roodachtig bruin. Het wordt minder gewaardeerd dan de witte variant, is poreus en heeft de neiging krom te trekken en te splijten. Het wordt gebruikt voor vloeren, schrijnwerk en fineer. |
