Note: Species of small tree with pale greenish or reddish bark and feathery leaves having two thorns at their base, native to Africa from Egypt to Kenya, west Senegal, and in the Sahara. It is a source of gum arabic. The wood was used in Ancient Egypt to make coffins; it is noted in the Bible as the material out of which the Ark of the Covenant was made. Formerly classified in genus Acacia.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Kleine boomsoort met een lichtgroene of -rode schors en vederachtige bladeren met twee doornen aan de onderkant, die inheems is in Afrika, van Egypte tot Kenia, West-Senegal en de Sahara. De boom is een bron van Arabische gom, en het hout van de boom werd in het oude Egypte gebruikt om doodskisten te maken; in de Bijbel wordt het genoemd als het materiaal waaruit de Ark des Verbonds was gemaakt. Voorheen werd de soort geclassificeerd als lid van het geslacht Acacia.
