Note: A colorless corrosive gas, the hydride of fluorine and an extremely powerful halogen acid, hydrogen fluoride is used as a catalyst and a fluorinating agent. Its chief use is in making fluorine-containing refrigerants such as freons. In a conservation context, hydrogen fluoride is considered as an atmospheric pollutant which damages metal structures, and buildings or monuments made of limestone. |

Dutch ..... Waterstoffluoride is het hydride van fluor, een kleurloos corrosief gas en een extreem krachtig halogeenzuur. Het wordt gebruikt als katalysator en fluorideringsmiddel, maar vooral in de productie van fluor bevattende koelmiddelen, zoals freonen. Binnen de context van de conserveringswetenschap wordt waterstoffluoride gezien als een atmosfeervervuiler die metalen constructies en gebouwen of monumenten van kalksteen beschadigt. |
