Note: Publications in which one or more artists have a full or large share in the process of conceptualization, production, and often distribution. These can be of various types: books, magazines, catalogs, individual sheets or inserts, audiovisual media and ephemera such as invitations, posters, mailart, flyers, postcards, etc. These may be autonomous works of art, as well as publications in which the artist or an artists’ collective has made an intervention or made a contribution. Examples of the latter are contributions in the form of a lithograph, linocut, fold or a cut-out in a newspaper, magazine or catalog. Certain audiovisual media such as music, film and sound work may also be considered artists’ publications, and are often accompanied by a cover, box or book designed by the artist.

Overkoepelend breed genre van publicaties waarbij één of meer kunstenaars het volledige - of toch ten minste een groot - aandeel heeft in het proces van het opzet, de productie en eventueel de distributie van de publicatie.Onder de algemene term ‘kunstenaarspublicaties’ worden uiteenlopende soorten van publicaties gerekend. We onderscheiden kunstenaarsboeken, -tijdschriften, -catalogi, -pagina's en inserts, audiovisuele media en efemera zoals uitnodigingen, affiches, mailart, flyers, postkaarten etc. Het kan zowel gaan over autonome kunstwerken (bvb in de vorm van een kunstenaarsboek volledig vormgegeven door een kunstenaar of kunstenaarscollectief), als over publicaties waar de kunstenaar of het kunstenaarscollectief een interventie heeft gedaan of een bijdrage geleverd. Voorbeelden van dit laatste zijn bijdrages in de vorm van een lithografie, linosnede, vouw of cut-out in een krant, tijdschrift of catalogus. Audiovisuele media zoals muziek, film en geluidswerk kunnen ook beschouwd worden als kunstenaarspublicaties. Deze worden bovendien vaak uitgebracht vergezeld van hoes, doos of boek door de kunstenaar ontworpen. |
