Note: Sanskrit poems of the kavya literary style; mahakavyas are short epics characterized by elaborate figures of speech. In its classical form, a mahakavya consists of a variable number of comparatively short cantos, each composed in a meter appropriate to its particular subject matter, which is taken from the epic tradition. |

Dutch ..... Sanskriet gedichten in de literaire stijl kavya. Mahakavya's zijn korte, epische gedichten die worden gekenmerkt door doorwrochte stijlfiguren. In zijn klassieke vorm bestaat een mahakavya uit een variabel aantal relatief korte canto's, elk in een metrum dat past bij het onderwerp. Deze onderwerpen worden uit de epische traditie gehaald.
