Note: Tree that produces a type of sour orange; it is a hybrid grown in the Mediterranean region, chiefly in Calabria, Italia, Citrus bergamia is most probably a hybrid between sour orange (C. aurantium L.) and lemon (C. limon (L.) Burm.f.), or a mutation of the latter. Common Bergamot is commercially cultivated for the essential oil derived from the rind, the fruit itself is not eaten. The oil is used in the production of perfumes and confectionery.

| Dutch ..... Boomsoort waaraan een type zure sinaasappel groeit. Deze boom groeit in het Middellandse Zeegebied, hoofdzakelijk in Calabrië, in Italië, en is waarschijnlijk een hybride van de zure sinaasappel (C. Aurantium L.) en de citroen (C. limon (L.) Burm.f.), of anders een mutatie van de laatstgenoemde soort. Gewone bergamot wordt commercieel verbouwd voor de etherische olie die uit de schors gehaald wordt; de vrucht wordt niet gegeten. Deze olie wordt gebruikt in de productie van parfum en snoepgoed. |
