Note: Masked, comic actors referred to as "gossips" in farces adopted from Greek Middle Comedy plays and especially popular in southern Italy in the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE. Known principally from vase paintings, these are grotesque figures meant to satirize aspects of everyday life, or as burlesques of mythology. |

Gemaskerde komische acteurs met maskers die 'roddelaars' worden genoemd in kluchten gebaseerd op Griekse komedies uit de middenperiode en die vooral populair waren in Zuid-Italiƫ in de 4e en 3e eeuw v.Chr. Deze groteske figuren zijn vooral bekend van vaasschilderingen en leveren satire op aspecten van het leven van alledag, of spelen een burleske op mythologische thema's. |
