Note: Nails of various types used for wooden trunks, both to hold panels together and to attach leather or thin wooden supports to the face of panels. When attaching supports, the nails were driven part way into the panel and then a piece of iron was held against the interior, so that the nail hit the iron and clinched or curled back into the wood, in order create a smooth interior surface. |

German ..... Nagel in verschiedenen Ausführungen, der für Holztruhen verwendet wird, sowohl um Paneelen zusammenzuhalten als auch Leder oder dünne Holzstützen an der Vorderseite der Paneele anzubringen. Beim Anbringen der Stützen wurde der Nagel teilweise in das Paneel getrieben und ein Gegenstück aus Eisen gegen die Innenseite gehalten, so dass der Nagel gegen das Eisen traf und sich dabei stauchte oder zurück in das Holz bog, damit eine glatte Innenoberfläche entstand. |
