Note: Rooms or small buildings that serve as sanctuaries or places of Christian worship; often having an altar. A chapel may be used for private worship in or attached to a church, palace, house, prison, monastery, or school. The concept includes both freestanding chapels and rooms or recesses serving as chapels in churches or other buildings. The Latin "cappella" or the French-derived "chappelle" or "chapelle" are occasionally used for "chapel" in English texts. In its original meaning, the term referred specifically to the shrine in which the kings of France preserved the cape (cloak) of St. Martin.

Dutch ..... Ruimten of kleine gebouwen die dienst doen als sanctuarium of christelijke gebedsplaats. Een kapel kan worden gebruikt voor besloten erediensten in of verbonden aan een kerk, paleis, huis, gevangenis, klooster of school. De kapel kan ook worden gebruikt voor openbare erediensten van de staatskerk, ondergeschikt aan of afhankelijk van de parochiekerk, waarvan de accommodatie op een bepaalde manier wordt aangevuld door de kapel. Het concept omvat zowel vrijstaande kapellen als ruimten die dienst doen als kapel in kerken of overige gebouwen. Het Latijnse 'cappella' wordt soms ook gebruikt voor 'kapel'. De term wordt soms ook gebruikt in de oorspronkelijke betekenis, waarbij specifiek werd verwezen naar het heiligdom waarin de koningen van Frankrijk de mantel van St. Martin bewaarden. 
German ..... Raum oder kleines Gebäude, das als Andachtsstätte oder Ort des christlichen Gottesdienstes dient. Eine Kapelle kann für die private Andacht genutzt werden in einer Kirche, einem Palast, einem Haus, einem Gefängnis, einem Kloster oder einer Schule. Sie kann auch für den öffentlichen Gottesdienst der etablierten Konfessionen verwendet werden, untergeordnet oder abhängig von der Pfarrkirche, die den Raum bereitstellt. Der Begriff umfasst sowohl freistehende Kapellen wie auch Räume oder Nischen, die in Kirchen oder anderen Gebäuden als Kapelle dienen. Das lateinische Wort "cappella" oder das aus dem Französischen abgeleitete "chappelle" oder "chapelle" werden gelegentlich für "Kapelle" in englischen Texten verwendet. Ursprünglich bezeichnete "Kapella" den Schrein, in dem die Könige von Frankreich den Umhang (Mantel) von St. Martin aufbewahrten. 
Portuguese ..... Salas ou pequenos edifícios que servem de santuários ou locais de culto cristão; muitas vezes tendo um altar. Uma capela pode ser usada para adoração privada ou anexada a uma igreja, palácio, casa, prisão, mosteiro ou escola. Pode, alternativamente, ser utilizado para o culto público da Igreja estabelecida, subordinada ou dependente da igreja paroquial, cujos alojamentos fornecidos por ela de alguma forma complementam. O conceito inclui tanto capelas autônomas quanto salas ou recessos que servem como capelas em igrejas ou outros edifícios. O latim "cappella" ou o derivado francês "chappelle" ou "chapelle" são ocasionalmente usados para "capela" em textos em inglês. Em seu significado original, o termo referia-se especificamente ao santuário em que os reis da França conservavam a capa (manto) de São Martinho.
