WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

New DEI Council Members

We are pleased to announce the selection of four new DEI Council Members: Adam Koot-Bascomb (Facilities/Grounds), Cassandra Peacock (Finance/Procurement), Hannah Pierce (Security/Emergency Preparedness), and Annelisa Stephan (Communications/Digital Content). Applicants went through a rigorous selection process, led by the JONES team, which included questions about their opinions on the value of the DEI Council and their experiences working with a diverse group of people. We’re delighted Adam, Cassandra, Hannah, and Annelisa will be joining the Council.

“Forgotten Password” Link Coming: Prepare Now!

A new Self-Service Password Reset tool is part of Getty OneConnect—it’s an easy way to change your password. But you need to know your password in order to change it—and what if you’ve forgotten your password entirely? (It happens.) You can prepare now for a new feature coming soon that will help. You’ll need to set up security questions in advance in order to use it. The attached steps illustrate how to do that. In early December, you’ll see a “Forgotten Password” hyperlink on the Getty OneConnect Home page. As long as you’ve set up your security questions in advance, you’ll be able to click that link, and change your Getty OneID password.

Digital Share Follow-Up Survey

Thank you to everyone who participated in Digital Share 2020 (So Digital, It’s Virtual). We appreciate all of the presenters’ generosity of time and knowledge. We have crafted this follow-up survey to learn how we can make the next Digital Share even better. Please take a minute to answer. If you didn’t have a chance to attend, or want to review what you saw, see slide decks and videos on the Digital Share 2020 program.

Doran Ross Research Papers and Library

The GRI is pleased to announce the recent donation of the research library and papers of former UCLA Fowler Museum director Doran Ross, who died last month. Ross was among the world's leading scholars of the arts of Ghana. This collection, which includes 2,100 books, 204 research notebooks, 16 boxes of files, 95 boxes of ephemera, and thousands of slides related to Ghana and other prominent tribal cultures of west Africa (as well as the history and cultural practices of Haiti and the Francophone Caribbean), complements the recently donated library and archive of Dr. Robert Farris Thompson, a specialist on Nigeria, as well as materials in the Johnson Publishing Company archive, many of which document coverage of Ghana's independence and US Africana movements. Such collections reflect the GRI's ongoing efforts to expand opportunities for research on the history of visual cultures linked to central and west Africa and their influence in global diasporic communities. Many thanks to the collaborative work of the Library and Curatorial departments to swiftly secure this important and inspiring donation.

EVENTS

Radical Archive: Preserving Protest Ephemera

In the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests, this conversation explores how community-generated, spontaneously made posters and ephemera—not meant to exist beyond the few hours or days of a protest—become part of an institutionalized archive. Conservators and curators highlight the historical, sociological, and cultural value of these materials, providing a behind-the-scenes look at conservation practices while discussing the significance of these items in times of social upheaval. Hosted by the GRI on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 4–5pm, on Zoom. Please register in advance.

Change the Subject Documentary Screening

The GRI Library has organized a screening of Change the Subject, a documentary film about Dartmouth College student activist efforts to change an anti-immigrant Library of Congress subject heading, on Friday, November 13, at 3 p.m. Following the screening, a co-director and a producer of the film will join for a Q&A discussion, and Ann Fath will share remarks on the Library's efforts to address problematic subject headings in its own catalog records. Join the screening and discussion on Zoom (passcode: 526217).
