WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Reminder: New Getty Intranet Survey

We’d like to invite you to join us as we prepare to replace GO with a new, modern intranet that will better meet Getty’s needs. Help us create a new solution that can facilitate communication, stay up to date, work well on mobile devices, and more! Complete this survey about what’s important to you in an intranet. The information will help us as we move forward.

NEP Parking Structure Work

Workers will be removing existing parking stripes to prepare for new striping for the Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in the Getty Center North Entry Parking (NEP) structure on levels P1, P6, and P7. The work will begin on Monday, May 10, at 7 a.m. and will be completed by Monday, May 17, at 6 p.m. The work will be noisy and dusty, involving sandblasting and painting equipment. Staff who park at NEP will be directed to park on the P2 level. All stairs and elevators will remain accessible and in operation. The TOH parking garage will be available for all staff and contractors for the duration of this work.

On-Site COVID-19 Vaccines

In partnership with Los Angeles County, Getty is exploring offering on-site COVID-19 vaccines for staff, docents, volunteers, and contract staff not regularly scheduled to be on site—and their families. You would arrive and park at NEP, walk to an area at NEP where the vaccine shot is given, proceed to a waiting area, and then depart the premises. We hope to coordinate this within the next couple of weeks, but need to get a sense of the number of people who would take advantage of this. Please complete this Survey Monkey to indicate your interest.

Library Curbside Service

The next Getty Library Curbside Service is May 18–20. Beginning today you can make an appointment in Reservio, our self-scheduling reservation system, to pick up items that you requested from April 15–May 12, or to return items that you have at home. Instructions for making an appointment are in the “Getty Library Curbside Service appointment information and Reservio instructions” document (attached). Curbside service dates and related information are also listed on the Getty Library at Home guide’s Circulation Curbside Service page.

Please note that curbside service hours are now 10 a.m.–2 p.m., with five-minute appointment times. When picking up your books, please park at the designated location and walk to the labeled book cart on the sidewalk.

Employee Well-Being

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. We know that people may be struggling during these quickly changing times and want to remind you that Getty’s Aetna and UnitedHealthcare medical plans provide coverage for mental health care—virtually and in person. To contact UnitedHealthcare call 800-999-9585, or visit MyUHC to download a virtual visit app. To contact Aetna, call 877-869-4077, or visit Teladoc.

Also, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to all employees and their family members for confidential, short-term counseling services and resources at no cost, as well as referrals to providers covered by your Getty insurance. Contact Health Advocate, the Getty’s EAP partner, for more information, at 866-799-2728.

Wildfire Awareness

While much of the focus this past year has been on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 was also a record-setting year for wildfires in California, and 2021 has the potential to be another very challenging year. May is National Wildfire Awareness Month and Getty Emergency Preparedness would like to remind you to be prepared for the possibility of threatening wildfires. Many of us live in areas that are at risk, and as we’ve learned over the past few years, wind-driven events can spread devastation into areas not usually seen as at risk. CalFire provides these guides on preparing for possible evacuation and hardening your home to increase the likelihood that it will survive a nearby wildfire. Prepare now, and have a plan in place for you and your family.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, ACCESSIBILITY, AND INCLUSION (DEAI)

AAPI Community Resources

The JONES team would like to thank members of the Getty Asian American Pacific Islander community who participated in last month’s listening session for AAPI employees. During that discussion, JONES provided a list of resources, including articles, organizations that need support, bystander intervention training, and mental health support. The list is available on Getty GO, and will be continually updated as more material becomes available.

The workshops will be held virtually 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on the dates below. Registration is not necessary. Use the Zoom links below for each session you wish to join.

What Makes People Laugh? Ancient Greek Comedy and Its Filipino Legacy

Join Mary Louise Hart, associate curator of antiquities at the Getty Museum, and director Jon Lawrence Rivera, founder of LA’s Playwright’s Arena, on May 14 at 12 p.m. as they decode a comedic scene on a fourth-century BC Greek vase. Using masks, costumes, and active staging to upend classical myths for laughs, ancient Greek comedy set a standard for humor millennia before the invention of today's television sitcoms. Hart and Rivera discuss how Filipino comedy and pageantry play into many of the same themes, demonstrating the enduring features of comic performance across cultures and time. Sign up in advance for this free online event.
