If your invitation letter/contract specifies that you will be staying at the Getty Scholar Housing complex, we can provide information about the building, its apartments, and more.

If the Getty will not provide you with accommodation/housing, here you can find information on hotels, inns, hostels, and other housing options.

The building is pink and it is located at the corner of West Sunset Blvd and Westgate. Parking is available in front of the building and on Westgate.

Arrival and Departure Days

Please do not plan to move into your apartment on a Saturday, or Sunday, holiday, or on every other Friday when Getty Staff is not working. Contact your Getty host for information about Scholar Housing off-Fridays.

The first and last dates of your residency, as reported in your agreement letter, are also the move-in and move-out dates from Scholar Housing. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate early arrivals nor late departures.

Arrival Hours

As Scholar Housing is an apartment building it does not operate like a hotel and, consequently, our check-in is not 24 hours/seven days a week. Move-ins are scheduled on weekdays and during regular business hours (from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) so that our Housing Coordinator can meet you and assist you in getting settled in.

If you will be flying to Los Angeles, please note that to arrive at Scholar Housing by 5:00 PM you should plan to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) by approximately 3:30 PM.

Send Us Your Travel Itinerary

We will need to check that your arrival and departure days and times are within these Travel Guidelines. Please send us your itinerary as soon as you have it!

We strongly discourage arriving at Scholar Housing unannounced as you may not find a staff member available to let you into the building.

Arrival During Non-Business Days/Hours

As Scholar Housing is an apartment building it does not operate like a hotel and, It is very important to remember that nobody will be able to access Scholar Housing during non-business days/hours.

If you plan to arrive in Los Angeles at a time other than during regular business days/hours, please confirm with your Getty host that you have other accommodation arranged.

The list of hotels and other accommodations will also be posted at the main entrance door of the building in case you arrive at Scholar Housing during non-business days/hours. Getty will not reimburse these lodging expenses.

Delays and other complications

If you flight is delayed, or there are other complications while you are traveling to Los Angeles, kindly contact the Getty Scholar Housing Coordinator, Amy Meyers at (310) 903-2123 or at ameyers@getty.edu to inform her of the delay. She will send you instructions accordingly.

You will be required to vacate Scholar Housing by midnight of your last day of residency. You will find this date on your agreement letter. Consequently, the departure date on your airline ticket should reflect your last date of residency, unless you are planning to stay longer in Los Angeles (or in the U.S.) in a different accommodation. In this case, please let your Getty host know your plans for new lodging before your arrival. Regrettably we cannot make any exception and extend any residency even if only for a few hours.

Taking A Cab From LAX to Scholar Housing

Please be sure to arrive in Los Angeles with enough US currency to cover taxi fare (approx. $80 - $100) from LAX to Getty Scholar Housing in Brentwood as most taxi drivers do not accept credit cards.

COVID Vaccination Requirements

Please remember to bring your proof of COVID vaccination and booster, and a document showing a negative Covid test result even if they are not required by the airline company, or you are driving to Los Angeles. Covid tests must have been taken in compliance with the latest CDC and Getty Covid Guidelines.

Please scan the results of the test to your Getty host before you arrive at Scholar Housing. In the unfortunate case that your test is positive, please find alternative accommodation until the test result is negative.

Taxes

The value of the Scholar Housing apartment and any other benefit you may receive from Getty are considered imputed income, and they may need to be reported when filing taxes according to each individual situation.
