Library Grant Recipients will receive their grant payments during the Getty residency. Unfortunately, we cannot issue payments before the arrival at the Getty. Please note the J. Paul Getty Trust may impose guidelines for health and safety that all grantees and visitors may be required to follow, including but not limited to access to office and shared spaces, quarantining, and masking. The Getty may unilaterally withdraw your grant/visit at any time.

Library Grant Recipients with a U.S. bank account (regardless of citizenship status) can be paid via Zelle.

Library Grant Recipients who do not have a U.S. bank account will be paid by wire transfer in U.S. dollars.

International Library Grant Recipients will receive their full payment a few days following their initial meeting with an OSIP staff member to complete the required paperwork. Consequently, it is important that International Grant Recipient meet with someone from the OSIP office as soon as they arrive at the Getty to quickly start the payment procedure.

When you enter the U.S. with a B visa or ESTA, please know that the Getty may deduct 30% of your grant for tax reasons if your country of Legal Permanent Residency does not have a tax treaty (Income Code 16) with the U.S. Government. Here is the link to the list of tax treaty eligible countries: Countries with Treaty Benefits for Scholarship Grants

Reminders:

You can apply for ESTA only if you already have a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) or a valid Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN).

If you do not have a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) or a valid Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) you need to apply for a B visa.

If you already have a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) or a valid Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN), but your country does not offer ESTA, you will need to apply for a B visa.
