General Information About The Getty Center

The Getty Center is located off of the 405 Freeway. Bus schedules and driving directions are available on the Getty Website here.

When you arrive, please tell the Visitor Services representative at the entrance that you have an appointment at the library. After you park, take the elevator to the "T" or tram level. The tram will take you to the top of the hill (if the tram is not operating, a shuttle service is provided).

The Research Institute is the round building adjacent to the Museum. Enter the building on the Plaza level (the same level as the Museum entrance). Proceed down the ramp to the Reference Desk where we will process your paperwork and give you directions to the Security Badging office to obtain your photo badge. When you return to the library with your badge, you will receive a brief orientation to the library. Comprehensive tours of the library are given on Mondays and Thursdays. We strongly encourage you to sign up for a tour upon your arrival, as it will greatly facilitate your research.

We suggest that you bring to the Getty Center only those belongings that are absolutely essential for your research, as your bags will be subject to search whenever you exit the Research Library.
