Trail of Death (American history, 1838)

Note: One of several forced removals of Native American communities during the Indian Removal period (1830-1839); the Trail of Death describes the forced march Potawatomi communities took from villages in Indiana to Kansas and then later to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). The name refers to the high mortality rate of Potawatomi individuals during the journey, due to famine and rampant illness.
