Indian Art of the United States (American exhibition, 1941)

Note: Hierarchy: Named exhibitions Exhibition held at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, New York; one of the first major exhibitions of Native North American art. Organized by the Indian Arts and Crafts Board, a federal arts board managed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Rene D'Harnoncourt, who later became director of MoMA in 1949. At the time, D'Harnoncourt was employed by the Board to exhibit and sell Native works. Considered a catalyst for further exhibitions of Native American art.
