	War of the Triple Alliance (South American history, 1864-1870)

Note: The War of the Triple Alliance was a conflict between Paraguay, led by the Paraguayan dictator Francisco Solano López, and the allied countries Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay (the triple alliance). It was incited by tariff and boundary disputes with Argentina and Brazil and became what is known as one of the bloodiest conflicts in Latin American history. It resulted in the near dissolution of Paraguay; the population was reduced to nearly half and portions of their territory were annexed by Argentina and Brazil.
