Ōnin War (Japanese history, 1467-1477)

Note: Civil war that ushered in the Sengoku period, over 100 years of relentlessly warring states. The war stemmed from Hosokawa Katsumoto and his faction loyal to the Ashikaga shogun, and landowners in the Honshu region. The war resulted in a stalemate, with eventual victory by Hosokawa Katsumoto.
