Sutra of Golden Light (Buddhist sutra)

Note: Buddhist text of the Mahayana Buddhism. Originally written in India in Sanskrit and was translated several times into Chinese by Dharmakṣema and others, and later translated into Tibetan and other languages. The tableau promotes Buddhist kingship and is one of the more uncommon subjects in Dunhuang art, demonstrate how one portion of a large wall painting composition was conceptualized through a combination of abbreviated drawing and textual notation. As in other related sketches, groups of men and women in royal attire are portrayed in deliberate, regular lines. Palms piously joined together, their gradual height increase, apparently from kneeling to standing, produces the sense of a dense but ordered assembly. As in many Dunhuang sketches, details such as fingers and facial features are omitted, indicating further that this was produced for the purpose of planning a large section of a wall painting.
