Stoning of Saint Stephen (Christian iconography)

Note: Narrative or devotional theme of St. Stephen who was a deacon of the early Christians in Jerusalem. Due to his preaching in synagogues, he was convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to death by stoning by Jewish authorities. From Acts of the Apostles, his martyrdom was witnessed by Saul of Tarsus, a Pharisee who would later himself become a follower of Jesus.
