Saint Francis Receiving the Stigmata (Christian iconography)

Note: Narrative concernng an account written by a colleague of Francis, Brother Leo, who was with him at the time of the event. His story states that while he was praying and fasting on the mountain now known as Penna (then La Verna), Francis said that he had a vision of a seraph on a cross, and this seraph caused the five wounds, the stigmata, to appear on Francis. Depictions may include a crucifix with rays wounding Francis' hands, feet, and side.
