Lazarus and Dives (parable, Christian iconography)

Note: Parable about a rich man, Dives (Latin for "rich [person]") and a poor man, Lazarus. In life, Dives did not aid Lazarus; in the afterlife, Dives is in agony, and Lazarus is comforted in the presence of Abraham. One of the most popular parables in illustrated in medieval art. It was treated as a story of real people, rather than as intended, a parable. From Luke 16:19-31.
