Conspiracy of Catiline (Roman history, 65 and 62 BCE)

Note: Historical and legendary events associated with Roman senator Catiline, traditionally comprising a plot to murder the consuls called the "first Catilinarian conspiracy" in 65 BCE (although historians doubt that Catilie was actually involved in this first plot, if it existed at all), and the "second Catilinarian conspiracy," devised by Catiline with the help of a group of aristocrats and military veterans to overthrow the Roman Republic in 63 BCE. According accounts, the plot was exposed by Cicero and Catiline fled Rome.
