Drop in on art with Family Art Lab, a free workshop that combines an art encounter with a hands-on art project.
How to Participate
Stop by the workshop table and pick up an activity sheet in English or Spanish. Then head to the galleries or the gardens, where a friendly guide will assist you and give you tips on completing a fun activity. Afterwards, you'll return to the workshop table to make your own masterpiece.
The program is geared for families with children ages five and up, but anyone can participate.
Family Symbols
This summer, Family Art Lab explores symbols in art. You'll journey to the decorative arts galleries to see a tapestry that tells the story of a Frenchman's adventures in China. You'll discover how kings and emperors used symbols, such as the fleur de lis and the five-clawed dragon, to express their personalities as rulers. Then you'll use what you learned to create your own family symbol.
