Join two eminent scholars as they inaugurate the Getty Research Institute's 2007–2008 scholar year. On October 4, classical historian Erich Gruen, this year's Getty Villa Professor, offers new perspectives on cultural appropriation or "identity theft" in ancient societies. On October 17, literary theorist and historian Angus Fletcher, this year's Getty Center Professor, advances a theory of change that brings into focus our understanding of cultural development.
Both lectures are free; reservations are required for the lecture at the Getty Center, and a ticket is required for the lecture at the Getty Villa.
