From Line to Light: Renaissance Drawing in Florence and Venice
Through October 10
The Getty Center
Some of the Getty Museum's most spectacular drawings—by Fra Bartolommeo, Andrea Mantegna, Jacopo Pontormo, Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, and Titian—are on view in this new exhibition. Building on Leonardo da Vinci's innovations, these artists raised the art of drawing to new heights during the Italian Renaissance. Compare the work of artists from Rome, Florence, and Venice, and see how each city took drawing to new and unique realms.

The Art of Ancient Greek Theater
August 26, 2010–January 3, 2011
The Getty Villa
This major international loan exhibition explores the many ways Greek plays and stagecraft inspired classical artists, whose works are often the only surviving evidence of the performing arts in antiquity.

See a wide variety of objects—including sculptures, painted vases, and a rare fragmentary papyrus of Sophocles' Trackers—that bring to life the rich cultural history of Greek theater. The exhibition features vivid depictions of scenes from tragedies, comedies, and satyr plays by the great playwrights of the ancient Greek world, and explores the use of sets, costumes, masks, choreography, and music.

The exhibition coincides with the Outdoor Theater production of Sophocles' Elektra.

Book free tickets to the Getty Villa.
