Kāśyapa (Buddhist character)

Note: Character who is the revered elder disciple of the Buddha, often depicted as an aged monk to the Buddha’s left in preaching assemblies. The Chan (Zen) tradition identifies him as its first patriarch. Also known as Mahākāśyapa.
